How to Measure

Measuring For Curtains

Before measuring you should decide whether your curtains will hang from a track or pole. Both tracks and poles should preferably be fitted before taking measurements for curtains. Ideally, poles or tracks should be fixed about 15cm above the top of the window. You should allow the same distance from each side of the window to each end of the track or to the last ring on the pole beyond the bracket.

Curtains are normally floor length, sill length or below sill length. Carpets should be in place before measuring for full length curtains.

Track Fixing

Width
Track Fixing

If you have a continuous track, measure the full length of the curtain track (A-B). If you have an overlapping track, measure (C-D) and (E-F), then add together to give the total measurement. If the track has end returns to the wall, the amount of end return should be added twice (once for each side).

Drop

It is usual for the curtains to obscure the track. The drop measurement should be given as the overall finished length from where the curtains start to where they are to finish, regardless of track selected (G). For full-length curtains we recommend 2cm clearance from the floor.

Pole Fixing

Width
Pole Fixing

Measure the width between the finials (A).

Drop

Gathered, Pinch Pleat and Pencil Pleat

If you require the pole to be visible, measure from the eye on the bottom of the ring to the length you require(B). If you would like the pole covered, measure from where the curtain is to start to where it is to finish (C).

Looped, Tie Top and Slot Top
Measure from the top of the pole to where the curtain is to finish (C).

Eyelet
With this style the top of the curtain is 3cm above the pole. Curtains will be made to the overall fabric drop given, it is therefore necessary to measure from the top of the pole and then add 3cm to this measurement.

For full-length curtains we recommend 2cm clearance from the floor.

Measuring For Blinds

Recess Fixing

Firstly decide if you require a recess or face fixing blind.

Recess Fixing

The blind goes inside a recess, frame or architrave and is therefore slightly smaller than the measurements given (and written on the order). This allows for clearance around the window, approximately 12mm overall.

If the window recess depth is less then 75mm recess fixing is not recommended.

Face Fixing

The blind will be fitted directly onto a wall, ceiling or outside of a window frame. The blind will be made to the exact dimensions given, including the mechanism.

Face Fixing

With all blinds you need to take into account the way the window opens and whether or not the window catches will interfere with the blind.

How to Measure for Recess Fixing

Measure the narrowest width (A). Take into account any protrusions such as tiles.

Measure the required drop (B), this will include the blind mechanism.

Do not make any allowances as this will be done when the order is processed.

Consider on which side you require the blind controls.

How to Measure for Face Fixing

Measure the required width(C). Consider any obstructions either side. It is recommended that the blind is at least 5cm wider (on either side) than the window recess.

Measure the required drop (D). it is recommended that your blind starts 5cm above the window recess.

Consider on which side you require the blind controls.

Curtain and Lining Information

Thermal InterlingTrack Fixing

All curtains are available with thermal interlining (instead of the standard or sateen lining as above). Thermal lining is 70% Polyester/ 30% cotton lining fabric, with an extra layer of Acrylic latex foam to provide ‘dim out’ and thermal insulation properties. Thermal interlining is available in ivory only.

Blackout Lining

All curtains are available with Blackout Lining, (instead of standard lining as above), at an additional cost.

Blackout lining is a 50% cotton/ 50% polyester fabric with a 3-pass blackout coating, and is available in white only.

Blackout lining greatly reduces light coming from outside penetrating the room, so is excellent for children's rooms. However, although light cannot penetrate the lining, light can come into the room around the top and sides of the curtains.

This can be improved by using a roller blind fitted inside the window recess, in conjunction with the curtains.

All Blackout lined curtains must be Sensitive Dry Cleaned.

Flame Resistant Linings

In certain situations i.e. student lodgings, multiple occupancy, hotels etc. curtains or drapes should have durable flame resistant fabric linings or inherently flame resistant fabric and conform to the latest edition of British Standard 5867 Part 2 when tested in accordance with the latest edition of British Standard 6435. Please contact our customer services team for more help.

Sateen Lining

All curtains are available with Sateen Lining (instead of standard lining as above) at an additional cost.

Sateen Lining is 100% cotton and is available in cream only.

Standard Lining

Morada Made to Order curtains and pelmets are available lined, to protect the main fabric from fading by sunlight and improve product drape.

Lining is 50% cotton/ 50%polyester and is available in cream only.

Interlining

All curtains are available with Interlining, (in addition to the standard lining as above), at an additional cost.

Interlining is 100% polyester sateen lining fabric. Interlining is available in white only. Interlining increases the fullness of your curtains and increases their thermal properties. These linings will give a truly impressive finish to your window treatments, together with long life and reduced shrinkage compared to lesser quality lining products. Interlining can also be used to protect fabrics, especially those used in drapes and consequently often exposed to direct light. Delicate fabrics like silk and velvet can suffer from sun damage if hung with a liner alone, and most drapers recommend the use of an interlining for the life of the fabric. In addition to protecting the fabric, the interlining also gives drapes a better form and fuller body.

Interlining is not available in conjunction with Blackout Lining.
